BUSINESS ROUNDTABLE LUNCHEON
The Heart of Texas Goodwill Industries Business Services Department aims to connect employers with qualified job applicants. Goodwill staff is available to work with local businesses to identify workforce needs and customize services specific to the employer. Services for employers include: locating potential applicants, screening job seekers, hosting hiring events, soft-skills training classes, and much more.
Recently, Heart of Texas Goodwill became involved in the Careers in Retail Initiative, a grant program funded by the Walmart foundation aimed at helping employers find qualified individuals to fill mid-level jobs within the retail, restaurant, and hospitality industries.
The Walmart Foundation and Goodwill Industries International selected 8 Goodwill organizations across the United States as pilot sites for the program. The initiative is designed to be flexible and based on the workforce needs of local employers. Over an 18 month period, Heart of Texas Goodwill will conduct leadership, management, customer service, and other soft skills training courses for individuals looking to advance their careers in the retail, restaurant, and hospitality industries. The goal is to help employers connect with qualified applicants ready to fill open mid-level jobs in the community. In order to accomplish this goal, Goodwill needs input from local employers that focuses on the following:
Understanding local employer workforce needs
Defining workforce “readiness” for specific companies
Identifying hard to fill mid-level positions
Examining opportunities to improve existing training programs
Identifying training programs Goodwill could offer to assist employers
